This Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use form a legal Agreement (“the Agreement”) between Noranda Education Inc. and its affiliated companies (“Noranda” or “we” or “us”) on one part, and higher education professionals such as deans, vice-deans, associate deans, program directors, department heads, section heads, professors, lecturers and teaching assistants of higher education institutions (“instructors” or “you”) on the other part. Each party to this agreement may be referred to as “a Party” and both parties may be referred to as “the Parties.”
It is understood that instructors wish to request and maintain a higher education instructor account on our website located at www.NorandaEducation.com (the “Website”) for obtaining a free read-only access to non-downloadable eBooks and materials made available for examination by instructors of higher education institutions such as universities and colleges. It is further understood that Noranda is pleased to make eBooks and education materials available free of charge, for examination by instructors, in accordance with the terms and conditions of this Agreement.
By requesting a higher education instructor account, namely by filling out the instructor account request form on our Website and sending your request, you agree with this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use. You further agree to use our Website, your instructor account and the read only access privilege offered to you by Noranda in accordance with this Agreement.
If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use, you must abstain from requesting a higher education instructor account, or you must delete your existing instructor account from our Website. In this case, we kindly request that you contact us to explain your disagreement, as we would appreciate your feed-back. You can reach us by using the Contact Us section of our Website.
1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
Noranda is committed to protecting the privacy of individuals who create a higher education instructor account. We collect a minimum amount of personal information and business contact information that you provide when you fill out the higher education instructor account request form on our Website. In order for us authenticate instructor account requests, and to follow-up with instructors from time to time, we specifically ask that you provide an email address assigned to you by your higher education institution. We also request that you provide a phone number where you can be reached at your institution. These coordinates are already in the public domain, as they are known by your university colleagues and by students, including prior students who have graduated. The other information that we collect regarding your employment at a university or college, and whether a course is offered at your institution are also in the public domain.
2. HOW WE USE THE INFORMATION THAT WE COLLECT
Noranda collects your name and business contact information for the purpose of authenticating that you are a higher education instructor. Our purpose also includes following-up with your from time to time, to enquire on the status of relevant courses offered at your higher education institution, to discuss your continued needs and interest in examining our eBooks and materials for education purposes, and to discuss if we can expect your institution or campus bookstore to order our books for courses offered at your institution. In addition, we may send you information applicable to our books and materials that you have access to, or applicable to other books or materials that we publish, which may be of interest to you.
Although the information that we collect about you and your institution is already in the public domain, we nonetheless endeavor to protect the privacy of the information that you provide to the best extent possible. In addition, we commit that we will not use the information that you provide outside of the scope of this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use. We also commit not to share the information that you provide with anyone outside of the Noranda group of companies, unless Noranda or its assets are transferred or sold to another education or publishing company, in which case we will communicate with you to inform you of the transfer of ownership or sale of assets, including the access privilege for eBooks and materials that we currently make available to you.
3. HOW WE PROTECT YOUR INFORMATION
Our Website is protected with secure socket layer technology, which is designed to provide a secure connection between our Website and your browser. When you create your higher education instructor account on our Website, your password is encrypted and never visible to us or anyone else. In addition, our database of instructor accounts is protected from unauthorized access, and your data within the database is encrypted for additional protection against the possibility that our database or a portion of it may be illegally copied or downloaded. For added protection, we use the services of a reputable website hosting company that has very strong cyber and computer security protocols.
However, despite our best efforts and the efforts for our website service provider, we cannot guarantee that your information will never be accessed illegally. In the event that we become aware of a breach of computer security that causes us to believe that your information may have been illegally accessed, we will communicate with you as soon as possible.
4. WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU
To protect your higher education instructor account from unauthorized access, we expect that you will create a password of at least ten characters using a combination of small letters, capital letters, numbers and special characters for protection against someone trying to impersonate you. We expect that you will keep the information up-to-date and notify us if you are no longer employed by the higher education institution that your have designated when requesting your instructor account.
You can delete your higher education instructor account at any time. However, you must delete your account if you no longer meet the terms and conditions of this Agreement. When you delete your instructor account, the information from your account profile is permanently deleted from our Website and database, and you no longer have access to our eBooks and education materials.
7. HOW WE ENDEAVOR TO MEET PRIVACY RULES
We only collect information for a legitimate purpose, and we limit our collection of information to only what we need for achieving that purpose, which is outlined in this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use. We do not share your information with anyone, and we do not sell your information to anyone. The personal information, business contact information, and data that we collect is stored in our database only for as long as it is necessary to achieve our purpose, which is to let you examine our eBooks and materials developed for higher education, to enquire on the status of relevant courses offered at your higher education institution, to discuss your continued needs and interest in examining our eBooks and materials for education purposes, and to discuss if we can expect your institution or campus bookstore to order our books for courses offered at your institution. 8. AGREEMENT UPDATES
We may update this Privacy Policy and our Terms for Use from time to time. It is your responsibility to examine this Privacy Policy on a regular basis to ensure that you are in agreement with it. In the event of a major revision to this Privacy Policy or to our Terms of Use, we will endeavor to communicate the revision to you by email.
